FELDENKRAIS
What is it?
The Feldenkrais method was developed by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais, an Israeli physicist. It is an educational system that develops a functional awareness of the self in the environment. Through this method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement.
How does it work?
The Feldenkrais Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. It uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. These improvements in your day to day movements will collectively enhance functioning in other aspects of your life. Students of this method become more aware of their habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities and learn to move in more efficient and graceful ways so as to avoid overstressing limbs and other body parts. By providing you with the knowledge and awareness to detect and correct movement and postural defects, Feldenkrais aids you in living your life fully, efficiently and comfortably.
What are its benefits?
The Feldenkrais method can be adopted by anyone - young or old, physically challenged or fit. It is beneficial for those experiencing chronic or acute back, neck, shoulder, hip, legs or knee pain. It has been very helpful in dealing with central nervous system conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and stroke. Senior citizens can use it to regain their ability to move without strain or discomfort.
The lessons you learn in the Feldenkrais method will help you enjoy greater ease of movement, an increased sense of vitality, and a sense of relaxation. After a session, the participants typically feel taller and lighter, breathe more freely and find that their discomforts have eased.
